Amelia Earhart Day – July 24th

Amelia Earhart, famed aviatrix born July 24, 1897, was the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. The record setting pilot was one of the biggest celebrities of her time. In addition to her solo flight across the Pacific, she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger as well as the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.

Earhart went missing on July 2, 1937 during what was going to be her most challenging, record breaking flight – - flying around the world at its largest point, the equator, approximately 29,000 miles. Sadly, her plane went missing only 7,000 miles from completing the flight. Earhart, her navigator and plane were never found. LOST theories anyone? Could Amelia be chillin’ with Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley? We bet she and Juliet would get along splendidly!
