Saluting Led Zeppelin
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was honored as a Commander of the British Empire by Prince Charles on Friday, July 10th, 2009. This new title means that Plant now outranks former band mate Jimmy Page, who is also a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
The Order of the British Empire was created during the First World War as a means of honoring people in the British Isles and other parts of the Empire for their efforts as soldiers and civilians. The Order of the British Empire recognizes service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the British Civil Service as well as efforts with philanthropic organizations.
Classic rock fans everywhere are still hoping for a Led Zeppelin reunion after the group played a one-off show at the O2 Arena in London back in 2007. Even Prince Charles suggested they should reunite! Only time will tell… until then download some of Led Zeppelin’s classics at Flycell.com. Feeling a little more symphonic? Flycell also has great Led Zeppelin covers by none other than the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
