Artist Spotlight: Kid Cudi

American hip hop artist Kid Cudi was discovered when his mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, came to the attention of rap megastar Kanye West. Soon he was performing on the VMA’s with Travis Barker and singing on Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreak on “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “Paranoid” and helping with the writing of “Heartless.”
He made his TV debut on Snoop Dogg’s MTV show, performing his hit, “Day ‘n’ Night.” His own single, “Day N Nite” grew in popularity as several artists remixed it, including Pitbull, Jim Jones, Collie Buddz, Jermaine Dupri, Trey Songz, and Styles P. A Kid Named Cudi also features rapper Wale.
In addition to his rap and hip hop skills, Cudi has also appeared in R&B and pop star Solange’s video for “T.O.N.Y.” He announced his retirement from hip hop after comments made in Joe Budden’s video log, but he soon followed up, stating that he was not going to retire.
