Get Us to 250 Followers and You Could Win!

Once Kori at Flycell hits 250 followers she has 3 copies of the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Soundtrack to give to 3 lucky peeps. Check it out, its got Beck, Metric, Broken Social Scene, T. Rex, the Rolling Stones…

In case you haven’t heard about this movie yet here is the story and trailer… looks pretty awesome if you ask me!

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsome identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Artist Spotlight: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah yeah yeah. Named after the common New York phrase, the group has been creating grimy indie art rock since 2001. With the release of their 1st EP, they quickly gained popularity and were soon playing South by Southwest and touring around the world. In 2003, they released Fever to Tell, which included the singles “Date With the Night” and “Y Control”, the video being directed by popular director Spike Jonze, who has also worked with Kanye West, the Beastie Boys, and Fatboy Slim among others. The Yeahs followed up with Show Your Bones, featuring “Gold Lion”, “Cheated Hearts”, “Phenomena”, and “Honey Bear.” Rolling Stone named it one of the best albums of 2006. The EP was followed with songs “10×10”, “Rockers to Swallow”, and “Down Boy.” The 3rd studio album, It’s Blitz!, was released in 2009. Generally favored by critics, the album was compared to The Killers and featured the songs “Dragon Queen”, “Soft Shock”, “Skeletons”, and “Hysteric.” Dave Sitek, of TV on the Radio, helped produce the album.

Artist Spotlight: Coldplay

Arguably one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Coldplay’s beautifully melancholic sound has identified with critics and fans alike since their debut album, Parachutes, dropped in 2000. They have gone on to sell millions of albums, driven by a string of hits like “Speed of Sound”, “Clocks”, and “Viva La Vida.” Coldplay started as an idea between two college mates, Chris Martin and Johny Buckland. Heavily influenced by U2Travis, and Radiohead, Coldplay’s debut stood out among a sea of alt rock Nirvana clones. Later works would draw on influences from Johnny CashBlur, and Oasis. The boys followed up with A Rush of Blood to the Head, which went 4x platinum in the US, 8x platinum in the UK, and won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. It also helped Chris Martin win Gwyneth Paltrow. X & Y was released in 2005 and was the best selling album of that year. Coldplay continued its domination in 2006 with Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. One of the fastest selling albums of all time, it has gone number 1 in 36 countries, and is the most downloaded album of all time. Chris Martin has also branched into Hip Hop, working on songs with Kanye West and Jay Z.

Artist Spotlight: Tokio Hotel

Tokio Hotel - Scream
Named after their favorite city (Tokyo) and the place where you can usually find them (hotel), Tokio Hotel was founded by two identical twin brothers, though you may not be able to tell. The older of the two, Tom, favors hip hop dress and dreads, a la Fieldy from rap-rock group Korn, while his little brother, Bill, prefers the androgynous front man look, made popular by Mick Jagger and David Bowie, among many, many others.
In fact, Bill’s look and big hair harkens back to when
Bon Jovi was huge (before he went country) and have helped him win such prestigious awards as “most attractive male singer.” Tokio Hotel cites a wide range of influences from Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker to Aerosmith and Megadeth, but their pop rock sounds, arena riffs, and fondness for robots makes them more similar to contemporaries Linkin Park.
Their look and sound have helped the band to achieve several number one songs and albums, as well as selling nearly 5 million copies of DVDs and CDs in their home country of Germany. Now they’re ready to conquer the rest of the world.

Up and Coming Artists

LMFAO
No really, that’s their name. DJ/rappers Redfoo and Sky Blu formed the group in LA two years ago. Their hit “I’m in Miami, Trick” made it to #51 on the Billboard Top 100.
Fun fact: The group’s name comes from an internet convo that Sky Blu had with his grandma.

Chester French
Formed in 2003 at Harvard, these intelligent indie artists named their group after famous sculptor Daniel Chester French. Their new song “She Loves Everybody” is sure to be a huge hit.

Jessie James
Her first single “Wanted” came out in April this year and she is quickly becoming a pop and country favorite on the radio. Jessie also toured with The Jonas Brothers this year.

KSM
Are you “Distracted”? If not you should be. KSM, an all chick band from California, may be the next big thing. So quick, get “Permission to Party” and download some of their soon to be hits at Flycell.com.
