Flycell Launches Mobile Content Service in South Africa

Flycell Grows International Presence by Bringing the Largest Online Catalog of Mobile Content to South Africa

Flycell

Flycell, Inc. (www.flycell.com), a leading mobile and online entertainment content company, today announced availability of a new edition of its portal created especially for the South African market. South Africa is the tenth country to gain its own version of the award-winning mobile content service. The website, now live at www.flycell.co.za, features some of the best and most exciting mobile entertainment content.

South Africans love their mobile phones. A March 2010 study by the research firm Synovate found that 84 percent of South Africans “cannot live without their cell phones.” The study also found that 71 percent of South African mobile phone users play mobile games and 66 percent listen to music on their phones. These statistics are particularly significant since less than 10 percent of South Africans use landlines whereas nearly 80 percent use mobile phones. These conditions make South Africa a perfect market for the mobile entertainment and content provided by Flycell.

Flycell now brings South African consumers today’s hottest ringtones as well as exciting new wallpapers, games, applications and other mobile media from today’s most popular mobile publishers. The new Flycell website serves as a one-stop-shop for South Africa’s mobile subscribers, offering them everything they need to personalize their cell phones with the latest in mobile media and entertainment, all in one easy-to-use online portal. Flycell’s service works on virtually every mobile phone and with every carrier throughout South Africa.

And the Mobile Content Winners are…

Flycell announces top mobile content for 2009

Flycell

Flycell, Inc. (www.Flycell.com), the popular mobile and online media and entertainment company, announced today the top mobile content for 2009 based on actual consumption by millions of people who subscribe to the Flycell service around the globe. People come to Flycell to download ringtones, mobile games, wallpapers, animations and themes to personalize their mobile phones and make them unique reflections of their individuality and lifestyle.

Even though the faltering economy impacted other areas of consumer electronics and digital media, Flycell reported 2009 as its best year ever, with more people using the Flycell service for downloading mobile content than ever before.

TOP MOBILE PHONE:

Handset manufacturers and mobile operators may be interested to know which devices were the most popular ones used by Flycell subscribers. Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Kyocera each had one handset apiece in a top ten list dominated by Samsung and LG. Which handset was the most popular? The envelope please?

The handset most used by Flycell subscribers in 2009 was the touch screen LG Vu (also referred to as CU920 and CU915).

TOP MOBILE GAME:

Mobile games have become one of the most popular ways to engage the brain when a person would otherwise be bored, such as waiting for a bus, riding the subway or shopping with a girlfriend. Games based on television game shows were popular this year, with “Wheel of Fortune Deluxe” and “Jeopardy Deluxe” both landing in the top five. Which mobile game takes the top prize? The envelope please?

The game most downloaded by Flycell subscribers in 2009 was the action packed arcade game “Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2.”

TOP WALLPAPER:

Because wallpapers decorate the backgrounds of mobile phone menus and idle screens, they are the most seen images people have on their phones. The wallpaper category 2009 was the year for Bling, Butterflies, Babies, and Barack Obama. A wallpaper featured earlier in the year entitled “Obama is My Homeboy” rounded out the top five, along with the images “Blue Neon Butterfly,” “Neon Butterfly Heart” and “Baby Girl.” But what did Flycell subscribers use most to dress up their phones? The envelope please?

In a sign of things that hopefully will come as the economy improves, the flashy money and dollar sign image “$ BLING $” was the most downloaded wallpaper in 2009.

TOP RINGTONE:

Ringtones are snippets of songs that people can assign to individual contacts in an address book. When people hear a favorite artist singing a chorus to a song they love they think, “This is a call I want to take!” Do people’s tastes in ringtones match their music tastes? The Billboard Hot Digital Songs of 2009 chart, a list of the top-downloaded songs across all genres ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, is topped by the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow,” followed by hits from Lady Gaga, Flo Rida, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and other artists with ringtones at Flycell.com.

Though “Boom Boom Pow” made it to the top five in Flycell’s most downloaded ringtones of 2009, the song trailed “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” by Soulja Boy Tell’em, “I Love College” by Asher Roth and “Birthday Sex” by Jeremih. What ringtone was number one? The envelope please?

The ringtone most downloaded by Flycell subscribers in 2009 was from the song “Best I Ever Had” by the artist Drake.

TOP ARTISTS:

Flycell saw many artists skyrocket to the top of download lists in each genre and become some of 2009’s megastars. Eminem, Drake, Lil’ Wayne and Black Eyed Peas were all major players in the rap/hip-hop world this year. R&B artists like Jeremih, Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson, Keyshia Cole and Jay Sean were all in regular rotation on the top ringtone lists throughout the year as well.

Rock legends Bon Jovi had competition from newer artists like Hinder, 3 Doors Down, Saving Abel and The All-American Rejects. Country legend George Strait also had some stiff competition from Toby Keith, Sugarland and the freshest face in country, Taylor Swift.

The pop category saw the fiercest competition of all, with undoubtedly one of the best female pop singers of all time, Mariah Carey, joined by new stars, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry as the top five pop artists stealing the hearts of Flycell subscribers. Who made it to the top? The envelope please?

The top ringtone artists in 2009 were (by genre):

  • Rap/Hip-Hop: Lil Wayne
  • Rock: Saving Abel
  • Pop: Mariah Carey
  • R&B: Keri Hilson
  • Country & Folk: Taylor Swift
  • Latin: Don Omar

The full lists of 2009 winners in each of the following categories can be found on the Flycell Blog:

Flycell CEO Named Most Visionary Consumer Services Executive in 2009 Mobile Star Awards™

Alberto Montesi wins award for leadership and financial success as Flycell wins Best Consumer Entertainment Service

Flycell

MobileVillage announced today the winners of its 8th annual Mobile Star Awards, awarding Flycell, Inc. CEO Alberto Montesi top honors with the SUPERSTAR award in the Visionary: Consumer Software and Services category. The mobile and online media and entertainment destination also received the top honor by being named SUPERSTAR in the Consumer App: Entertainment or Media Services category, paying tribute to the exceptional year Flycell’s service enjoyed in 2009 under Montesi’s leadership.

Mobile Star Award WinnerThe Mobile Star Awards recognize the top mobile products, success stories and visionaries as chosen by thousands of readers of technology news portal MobileVillage’s Go Mobile™ newsletter. The SUPERSTAR award is the highest honor given to Mobile Star Award winners.

The Mobile Star Visionary award is the latest achievement for Montesi, who earned a place on the Silicon Alley 100 list, was recently a finalist for Executive of the Year in the 2009 International Business Awards℠, and was honored as one of Mobile Entertainment’s Top 50 Executives the past two years running.

“These awards and Flycell’s overall success in 2009 have all been a truly impressive team effort with every member of our company contributing,” said Montesi. “I personally would like to thank Flycell employees for their contributions to our exceptional growth, both here in the US as well as internationally, at a time when many of our competitors are buckling under the pressure of the failing global economy.”

Montesi was specifically recognized for his leadership and vision, guiding Flycell through four years of uninterrupted growth, including impressive double digit growth in each quarter of 2009, despite the poor economy. He attributes his company’s success to its ability to stay ahead of industry trends, make wise customer acquisition choices, and create and deliver the mobile and digital entertainment customers are demanding in an easy to use and efficient way.

Flycell‘s 2009 earnings are running more than 80 percent over the company’s earnings in 2008. Last year the company took in $75 million. For the first three quarters of 2009 the company has already eclipsed $100 million.

“Montesi’s success in staying one step ahead of mobile and digital entertainment trends, with a service consumers are willing to pay for, is a perfect example of the kind of visionary the Mobile Star Awards seek to honor,” said Gary Thayer, editor of MobileVillage. “We applaud Mr. Montesi and Flycell for being selected by their industry peers for these two awards and look forward to seeing what Flycell will bring to consumers in 2010.”

Flycell Quarterly Financial Growth Continues with Most Successful Quarter in Company History

Third quarter financial shows continued robust growth throughout 2009 despite global economic downturn

Flycell

Flycell, Inc., a leading mobile and online entertainment content company, today announced quarterly financial results citing Q3 2009 as the most successful quarter in the company’s five year history, with an impressive 87 percent increase in revenue over Q3 2008. Despite the economic downturn, Flycell once again reported double-digit growth, including growth in each of its existing countries of operation. Revenue for the first three quarters of 2009 is already a full $23 million more than the results for all of 2008, the most successful full year Flycell has had to date.

Flycell’s parent company Acotel Group (MIL: ACO) reported Flycell took in over $43 million in revenue in Q3 2009 as compared to $23 million earned in Q3 2008. Last quarter Flycell reported $39 million in revenue, giving the company revenue of $103 million for the first three quarters of 2009. Flycell reported 75 million in 2008. With revenues for the first three quarters of 2009 already more than 37 percent over the annual total for 2008, Flycell continues to be a growing and profitable enterprise.

In its report for the quarter ending September 30, Flycell’s parent company Acotel, stated its “earnings revenue of €39,112 thousand marks a 67 percent increase on the third quarter of 2008, reflecting the positive performances achieved primarily by Flycell, Inc.”

  Q2 Q3 Fiscal Year
2009 Flycell Revenue ($Millions) $39 $43 $103 YTD*
2008 Flycell Revenue ($Millions) $19 $23 $75
Percentage increase 2009 over 2008 105% 87%

* Represents financial data from January 1 to September 30, 2009, the first
three quarters of the fiscal year

Flycell’s consistently strong quarterly growth throughout 2009 in the face of a global economic recession continues to prove the mobile entertainment industry is a hot sector.

“Despite the continued economic challenges, Flycell continued to grow the customer base that came to us for our increasingly diversified digital entertainment product and service catalog,” said Alberto Montesi, CEO of Flycell. “New products, particularly our SMS text messaging based games, are gaining in popularity. Flycell is also busy building out new international markets.”

Flycell Reports Best Quarter in Company History

Q2 2009 numbers mean another earnings milestone for the five year old digital entertainment leader

Flycell

Flycell, Inc., a leading mobile and online entertainment content company, today announced quarterly financial results citing Q2 2009 as the most successful quarter in the company’s five year history. Despite the economic downturn, Flycell again reported double-digit growth, including growth in each of its existing countries of operation. Revenue for the first half of 2009 is almost equal to the results for all of 2008, the most successful full year Flycell has had to date.

Flycell’s parent company Acotel Group (MIL: ACO) reported Flycell took in just over $37 million in revenue in Q2 2009 as compared to $19 million earned in Q2 2008. Last quarter Flycell reported $23 million in revenue giving the company H1 2009 revenue of $60.5 million. Acotel reported Flycell earned $75 million in 2008. With revenues for the first six months of 2009 already above 80 percent of the annual total for 2008, Flycell continues to be a growing and profitable enterprise.

  Q1 Q2 H1 Fiscal Year
2009 Flycell Revenue ($Millions) $23 $37 $60 $60 YTD*
2008 Flycell Revenue ($Millions) $14 $19 $33 $75
Percentage increase 2009 over 2008 64% 95% 83%

* Represents financial data from January 1 to June 30, 2009, the first six months of the fiscal year

Despite an ailing global economy, Flycell continues to buck the downward financial trend with 60 percent growth from Q1 to Q2 2009; Q2 2009 represents a dramatic 95 percent increase over Q2 2008, proving the mobile entertainment industry is a hot sector.

“We couldn’t be happier with our Q2 results, especially given the tough economic climate,” said Alberto Montesi, CEO of Flycell. “This kind of growth would be impressive in any market, so given the current state of the economy, we are particularly gratified to be expanding, gaining new customers and increasing our revenue. We are seeing that the low price point of mobile content is especially attractive as more and more people are using their mobile phones as their entertainment hub and personalizing them with ringtones, games and applications.”

Ringtones continue to be the most popular mobile content beyond text messaging and email. During the last quarter Flycell expanded into other areas of mobile entertainment, including a new SMS-based low bid auction game called Bid Hunter and a text messaging based quiz game called SMS Love. Flycell plans to further expand its offerings this year as it keeps a finger on the pulse of consumer interests and industry trends.

Flycell

Alberto Montesi, CEO of FlycellAlberto Montesi, founder and CEO of Flycell, Inc., a leading mobile and online entertainment content company, has earned a Certificate of Finalist Recognition for Executive of the Year in North America in the 2009 International Business AwardsSM, known as the Stevies. The International Business Awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards program honoring great performances in business.

Nicknamed the Stevie® for the Greek word “crowned,” the awards will be presented to honorees at a gala dinner on Monday, September 14 in the St. Regis Hotel in New York City.

Organizations all over the world are eligible to compete in The International Business Awards. This year’s honorees were selected from more than 1,700 entries received from organizations and individuals in more than 30 countries.

Stevie Finalist LogoMontesi was recognized as a finalist for Executive of the Year for leading his international team at Flycell to create a digital entertainment service that is responsive to the consumer’s desires and needs, while staying at the forefront of technology innovations and trends in the space.

With Montesi’s guidance and expertise, Flycell has achieved profitability at a time when many companies in the digital entertainment sector are struggling to stay afloat. Despite the faltering economy, Flycell has experienced quarter over quarter growth, with revenue for the first half of 2009 nearly equal to revenues from all of 2008.

“Being named a finalist for a Stevie Award is an honor for me personally, but more importantly, is a testament to the continued success of Flycell,” Montesi said. “The Flycell team is focused on creating and delivering the cutting-edge mobile and digital entertainment customers are demanding. We have experienced exceptional growth, especially thus far in 2009. It’s undoubtedly been the collective effort of our entire company that I’m most proud of, and I applaud the whole Flycell global team for our success.”

Members of the Awards’ Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs selected International Stevie winners from among the Finalists, which were determined by volunteer judges around the world during two months of preliminary judging.

“Despite the harsh economic climate, entries to the IBAs actually grew a bit this year, and that illustrates the increasing importance of The International Business Awards worldwide,” said Michael Gallagher, president of The Stevie Awards, presenters of the IBAs. “We congratulate all of the honorees, and we look forward to recognizing them for their achievements at our gala awards dinner in New York on September 14.”

Complete lists of honorees and other details are available at www.stevieawards.com/iba.
