Saluting Led Zeppelin

Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was honored as a Commander of the British Empire by Prince Charles on Friday, July 10th, 2009. This new title means that Plant now outranks former band mate Jimmy Page, who is also a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

The Order of the British Empire was created during the First World War as a means of honoring people in the British Isles and other parts of the Empire for their efforts as soldiers and civilians. The Order of the British Empire recognizes service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the British Civil Service as well as efforts with philanthropic organizations.

Classic rock fans everywhere are still hoping for a Led Zeppelin reunion after the group played a one-off show at the O2 Arena in London back in 2007. Even Prince Charles suggested they should reunite! Only time will tell… until then download some of Led Zeppelin’s classics at Flycell.com. Feeling a little more symphonic? Flycell also has great Led Zeppelin covers by none other than the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Amelia Earhart Day – July 24th

Amelia Earhart, famed aviatrix born July 24, 1897, was the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. The record setting pilot was one of the biggest celebrities of her time. In addition to her solo flight across the Pacific, she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger as well as the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.

Earhart went missing on July 2, 1937 during what was going to be her most challenging, record breaking flight – - flying around the world at its largest point, the equator, approximately 29,000 miles. Sadly, her plane went missing only 7,000 miles from completing the flight. Earhart, her navigator and plane were never found. LOST theories anyone? Could Amelia be chillin’ with Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley? We bet she and Juliet would get along splendidly!

Celebrate Amelia’s valiant attempt to fly around the world with some world class ringtones, like:

SHHhhhhh… July is National Cell Phone Courtesy Month

We won’t encourage you to stop using your phone, but because it is National Cell Phone Courtesy Month we feel compelled to at least give you a guide to cell phone etiquette 101.

A recent survey conducted by Intel reported that 90% of people are annoyed by cell phone users’ apparent lack of manners but only 38% will actually admit to exhibiting that bad behavior themselves. What topped the list of most annoying behavior? Number one is texting while driving, followed closely by people talking loudly on their mobile phones.

Here are a few tips to help you avoid driving those around you up the wall with your mobile:

  1. Don’t let calls interrupt important events, dates, meetings. After all, nothing is more of a turn-off than having your romantic date interrupted by Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby’s Got Back” ringtone.
  2. Don’t get loud/angry with the person you are talking to. It makes everyone around you uncomfortable.
  3. Learn to use vibrate. Vibe. Live it, love it.
  4. Just because you are on the phone does not mean you need to speak louder. Talk at a normal volume.
  5. Don’t text message while driving. It’s just plain stupid.

And last but not least… don’t be this guy with the ringer on at inappropriate times:

The quacking ringtone not only had the room laughing, but it interrupted President Obama’s speech rather abruptly. Thankfully Obama handled the situation with some humor asking “Where do you guys get these ringtones? I’m curious.” The answer of course: Flycell.com. Get yours here!

Michael Jackson – King of Pop – 1958-2009

From The Jackson 5 to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson’s life has been a tale of extraordinary international fame and tragedy.

The Jackson 5 had four No. 1 singles in a row, in addition to a TV show and constant touring. Michael truly knew no other life, beginning his music career at age 5. Striking out on his own in 1971, he revolutionized the music and dance scene for artists around the world.

Michael Jackson was the world’s most popular entertainer thanks his trend-setting dance moves, signature fashion statements, and of course a long list of chart-topping hit songs including “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and “Thriller” – all featured on the Thriller album, which remains the best-selling album of all time. From his single shiny glove and the Moonwalk to his signature red jacket and the Neverland Ranch, Michael Jackson was truly an icon.

Pay your respects and get a Michael Jackson ringtone or wallpaper. Or go way back and find The Jackson 5 ringtone that suits you best.

Top June Artists and Ringtones

Top Artists in June:

Eminem

1. Eminem – As infamous as he is famous, Eminem (a.k. Slim Shady a.k.a Marshall Mathers) is one of the most influential MCs ever. Em put Detroit Rock City back on the map in 1999 with the release of the triple platinum The Slim Shady LP. Featuring heavy production by Dr. Dre and singles “Guilty Conscience”, “’97 Bonnie and Clyde”, and “My Name Is”, this album introduced the world to Eminem’s lyrical skill and his controversial style. The Marshall Mathers LP followed in 2000 and broke records set by Snoop Dogg for fastest selling hip hop album and Britney Spears for fastest selling album by a solo artist. Marshall insulted several celebrities, including Christina Aguilera and NSYNC, in “The Real Slim Shady.” Other songs include “The Way I Am” and “Stan”, featuring a Dido sample and often voted as 1 of the best rap songs ever. The Eminem Show became Eminem’s third straight album to win the Grammy for best rap album, driven by singles “White America”, “Without Me”, and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” Encore, another platinum album, dropped in 2004 and features “Mockingbird”, “Just Lose It”, and “Mosh.” In 2009, Eminem ended his 5 year hiatus from rap and hip hop with the release of new songs “Crack a Bottle” (with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent) and “We Made You,” the video which again parodied several celebrities such as Bret Michaels and Amy Winehouse. Marshall also is an actor, appearing in 8 Mile and lending his voice to 50 Cent’s video game.

Lil Wayne2. Lil Wayne – Having been featured on more artists’ records in the last two years than any other artist in the game, Lil Wayne’s been a lil busy. He ain’t so “lil”, though, when you consider that an MTV poll named him Hottest MC, GQ named him one of its Men of the Year, and Blender magazine named him Best Rock Star Alive.

Eminem

3. Jeremih – His single Birthday Sex hit the top of the Flycell Charts in June. This up and coming artist is one to watch in the future.

Keri Hilson

4. Keri Hilson – Keri Hilson’s first single dropped in ’08, but she’d already been making hits for years. Oh you didn’t know? She’s been writing hits for artists like Ludacris for years, as well as appearing in videos for Ne-Yo and Nelly. Though she had made a name for herself as an arranger and background vocalist, in 2008, Hilson decided to stop creating great songs for others and start doing her own. Her popular singles included “Return the Favor” (with Timbaland), as well as “Energy” and “Turnin’ Me On” (with Lil’ Wayne), both of which charted on Billboard Top 100.

Black Eyed Peas

5. Black Eyed Peas – Believe it or not, the Black Eyed Peas have been together since 1988 when Will.i.am and apl.de.ap first joined forces in a break dancing crew, where they regularly performed at parties. In 1995, the name Black Eyed Peas was first used and only a few years later their songs started to appear on movie soundtracks and the debut album Behind the Front was released. Their second album featured the hit “Request Line” with Macy Gray.

Keyshia Cole

6. Keyshia Cole – What makes Keyshia Cole unique among all the other Atlanta-based R&B singer-songwriters with a pretty face and a soulful voice is that BET has a reality TV show that follows her as she lives her life as an Atlanta-based R&B singer-songwriter with a pretty face and a soulful voice.

Kid Cudi

7. Kid Cudi – American hip hop artist Kid Cudi was discovered when his mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, came to the attention of rap megastar Kanye West. Soon he was performing on the VMA’s with Travis Barker and singing on Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreak on “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “Paranoid” and helping with the writing of “Heartless.” He made his TV debut on Snoop Dogg’s MTV show, performing his hit, “Day ‘n’ Night.”

Fabolous

8. Fabolous – Even though he apparently can’t spell, this American rap artist can lay claim to a series of hits, starting with his debut in 2001 with Ghetto Fabolous and ending with his latest achievement – his first number one – last year’s From Nothin’ to Somethin’.

9. Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em – He is among the youngest of the new generation of rap stars, and there is still some debate as to whether he will lead a new movement in rap, or will spiral into obscurity following the wild success of his first single, ‘Crank That,’ which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Twista

10. Twista- Holding it down as the number 3 most downloaded song in June with “Wetter.”

June’s Top Ringtones:

  1. Birthday Sex” by Jeremih
  2. Boom Boom Pow” by Black Eyed Peas
  3. Wetter” by Twista
  4. Knock You Down” by Keri Hilson
  5. “Beautiful” by Eminem
  6. “Day N Nite” (Crookers Remix) by Kid Cudi
  7. My Time” by Fabolous (feat. Jeremih)
  8. “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” by Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em
  9. Day N Nite” by Kid Cudi
  10. A-Yo” by Method Man and Redman
